RCom eyeing Rural India penetration
Reliance Communications is on a mission of tapping rural India by offering mobile and internet services. The ADAG promoted company has come up with its new internet service plan named BharatNet, Grameen, which is new value-added service, offered on mobiles and M2M (machine-to-machine) offerings for rural folk.
This BharatNet plan is RCom’s strategy of tapping rural, sub-urban markets by offering high-speed wi-fi internet service having 153 kbps speed, and it will cover more than 20,000 rural locations. Metros and some of the top cities of India will be devoid of this tariff which otherwise would be offered across Indian countryside.
Good things always come in small packages. This is true for BharatNet tariff plan. The tariff is an innovative plan costing only Rs. 98 a week, and customers can download data up to 350 MB.
Value Added Service plan, Grameen has capability to offer services like Mandi Bhav, animal husbandry updates, agriculture updates, weather forecasting, and news in dialect on their mobile phones. It is priced at monthly price of only Rs. 15.
Mobile applications which help in automation, remote monitoring, surveillance, and data gathering are being offered through M2M solutions.
RCom has not yet disclosed the planned investment but a good step in tapping the untapped Rural India.
